Middle School
Confidence lies at the heart of successful learning. In Middle School small form based classes, an emphasis on individual needs and teachers who will go that extra mile ensure that every pupil receives the time and attention needed to develop the confidence and desire to learn for life. Achievement is recorded in a personalised pupil planner which allows weekly communication with parents.
A strong pastoral systems provides firm foundations for learning: happy pupils who feel well supported learn well. The role of the Form Tutor and Heads of Year is crucial in fulfilling our aim to provide a secure and structured communication for all pupils, in which these young people can fulfil their potential whilst learning to live and work together in a spirit of co-operation, kindness, mutual respect and enthusiasm.
Our curriculum is broad and deep. With an embedded focus on physical and mental well-being, pupils in all year groups benefit from specialist teaching from staff with expert subject knowledge in our first-class facilities. We firmly believe in teaching facts. Enhanced by trips, visits and our curriculum content enables pupils to acquire deep knowledge in each subject area. Children in Year 3 & 4 continue Creative Curriculum project work, in Year 3 with a whole class Enquiry Project, in Year 4 an Adventure independent Project and in Year 5 an Enterprise Project, combining science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. Pupils also take part in Focus Days which allows for pupils to see a task through from start to finish which in some subjects can take half a term. Pupils start the day with a question or problem and spend the day working to a conclusion with the added benefit of trips and visiting speakers to bring the subject to life.
As the children join Middle School we encourage them to consider the wider community, pupils have the opportunity to join the School Council, Anti-Bullying Committee and Eco Committee. All pupils represent the school in sports matches including hosting visiting schools for Match Teas. A Middle School Production in the Spring Term showcases our five keys to success with a show stopping dramatic performance to include all pupils. In addition our wide ranging co-curricular programme provides pupils, whatever their interests, with clubs at lunchtime and after school, five days a week.
