Porto Football Tour: A Whirlwind of Goals, Growth, and Good Times

Date Posted: Wednesday 23 October 2024

What an adventure it was in Porto! The football tour began with a delayed flight but plenty of excitement. After navigating airport security with the usual “school essentials” (goodbye, giant scissors!), the group was off, fuelled by snacks that the pupils considered breakfast – Haribo, Takis, and enough Prime to make KSI proud. The flight itself? Let’s just say some romantic weekenders were probably rethinking their plans as 30 sugar-fuelled pupils boarded the plane.

Upon arrival, they settled into a hotel overlooking the Atlantic, where the all-you-can-eat buffet quickly became the pupils’ favourite hangout. Then, it was time for football, with the team facing Porto Dragon Force’s finest. Although the results weren’t quite in their favour, the pupils learned valuable lessons in grit and skill, returning to the hotel for dinner as the Atlantic waves crashed below.

Day two saw the group experiencing life as pros! Dressed in Porto training kits, the pupils trained hard, focusing on pressing and ball recovery. A massive buffet in the city followed, complete with a robot waiter that, after many trips, probably needed a break. The afternoon brought more competitive games, where the team gave everything they had, despite some tough scorelines.

Next, the group visited the famous Estádio do Dragão, home of FC Porto. But not before another feast, this time in the President’s box! The tour of the stadium and museum was a highlight for both the pupils and their football-loving teachers. Walking through the same tunnel as Porto legends added a new layer of awe to the experience. Of course, the pupils raided the club shop, buying up Porto merchandise like lifelong fans (even though a few still thought they were in Spain!). Expect some unique souvenirs!

The final day was all about finishing off the football training with agility and fitness drills. While no million-pound contracts were signed, each pupil gained confidence, honed their technique, and created memories to last a lifetime. As the sun set on the last day, the group reflected on the friendships formed and the personal growth each child had shown.

It had been a whirlwind of football, food, and fun – an enriching experience on and off the pitch. The pupils were a credit to themselves and their families. Now, packed and ready for home (though some hadn’t unpacked at all!), they looked forward to their beds, favourite food, and of course, seeing their families again.
