HeadLines, Friday 1 December

Date Posted: Friday 01 December 2023

Dear Parents,

Well done to Upper School for your assembly, thank you to all of our musicians and performers covering drama, history and music. It was fantastic to hear about all the different and wonderful projects you are working on.

Our final Focus Day of the term saw countless opportunities for our pupils to delve deeper into their learning. For example, Year 7 & 8, visited the Tower of London and in particular the White Tower which is the most famous castle keep in the world. It was built to awe, subdue and terrify Londoners, and to deter foreign invaders. Year 6 focused their studies on the important elements of Islam and visited the Tunbridge Wells Mosque to speak with the Iman about his faith. Year 4 pupils deviated from their creative curriculum theme of Ancient Egypt to investigate Modern Egypt. They wrote postcards from Cairo after looking at the key tourist attractions, and were amazed to hear of some of the more unusual evolutionary adaptations of camels. Year 3 had a visit from Hands on History, they battled in formation against the Celts, examined replicas and learnt about Roman medicine. Year 5 focused on ‘Mission to Mars’. They discussed the dangerously thin atmosphere and tested what materials would be the best at protecting them from UV radiation. They ended the day by making UV detection bracelets and blasting mini rockets across the lab!

There is, as you can imagine lots of hard work going on in the background with polished prose and songs as we prepare for the festive season, with our Carol Service and nativities to come. We look forward to seeing you at our many festive community events. Thank you for your continued support.

Today we are in the throes of the PA Christmas Fair. Enormous thanks to Mrs Dellar and Mrs Williams and all of the PA for the huge amount of planning and coordination. Please remember your Christmas jumpers for Friday 8 and Tuesday 12 December.

We invite you all to ‘Save the Date’ for our New Term Breakfast on 12 January 2024.

Best wishes,

Emma Neville
