HeadLines, Friday 31 January
Dear Parents,
At our School, we believe in fostering a deep understanding of the world through meaningful learning experiences. We have had a hugely busy week, including our pupils having the opportunity to mark significant events such as Chinese New Year and Holocaust Memorial Day. These occasions are vital for nurturing empathy, awareness, and global citizenship in our young people.
PrePrep delved into Chinese New Year, which allows pupils to celebrate the richness of another culture, exploring its traditions, stories, and values. Through this, they gain insight into a global perspective, fostering respect for diversity and an appreciation of the interconnected world they are growing up in. Mrs Cai shared her knowledge with the pupils and Mrs Tucker cooked an excellent Chinese lunch. So, we wish you all 新年快乐 / 新年快樂 (Xīnnián kuàilè). Celebrations like this also help pupils see the beauty in differences, promoting curiosity and open-mindedness. By marking these events, we aim to help our pupils grow into thoughtful, respectful individuals who value both the shared and unique aspects of human experience. Thank you for supporting us in this important work.
Holocaust Memorial Day, by contrast, invites deep reflection on history and humanity’s responsibilities to one another. We ended our assembly with a reflection on Holocaust Memorial Day, and Year 8 read a special prayer.
The School Council, Eco Committee, and Anti-Bullying Committee shared their discussions and insights, addressing school life and broader societal issues. Their contributions not only enrich our school but also highlight the importance of listening to young people as equal partners in shaping their future. The School Council have put together a list of recommendations and changes which they are busy working on. The Anti-bullying Committee reminded us of the forthcoming Safer Internet Day on the 11 February, and how to make sure our passcodes can keep our accounts safe. The Eco Committee are in the process of developing a fernery using materials from around the school.
We hope that our Future Schools Evening provided you with further guidance and insight, and we offer support as you make those vital decisions. My thanks to the Rose Hill School staff, but also to all our senior school colleagues.
3WB’s assembly this morning was terrific especially the battle scene between the Celts and Romans! The class shared their love of learning about so many aspects of these historic eras including mapping, volcanic action and some disgusting recipes! Well done to all, and to Alex for his beautiful violin solo. Max, Rosie and Olivia’s singing performances in assembly were absolutely delightful. My thanks to them for all of their hard work and effort.
We have some staff news. I am sorry to inform you that Mrs Izzard has now left the school for personal reasons, we would like to thank her for all her hard work and wish her all the best for the future.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
Best wishes,
Emma Neville
