HeadLines, Friday 24 January

Date Posted: Friday 24 January 2025

Dear Parents,

At our School, we believe in the transformative power of democracy within education. This week, we have focused on democracy, celebrating the opportunities it creates for collaboration and change. Pupil voice is at the heart of our community, enabling our learners to actively shape their experiences and contribute meaningfully to school life. Far from being a symbolic gesture, it is a vital expression of democratic values, empowering pupils to engage as thoughtful, articulate, and proactive participants in their education.

By embedding pupil voice in our Compass curriculum, we ensure that learning is tailored to their needs and aspirations. Encouraging open dialogue fosters inclusivity, helping every child feel valued, heard, and empowered. This democratic approach also develops crucial life skills such as critical thinking, self-advocacy, and teamwork, preparing pupils to become responsible citizens who actively contribute to their communities. Over the next couple of weeks, we will be looking at our community and democracy in action, amplifying pupil voice. Our School Council, Eco and Anti-Bullying Committees will be feeding back to the School next week.

Collaboration extends beyond the school gates, with parents and educators working together to create a dynamic and supportive environment where every child thrives. Together, we can ensure that each pupil enjoys their educational journey, excels in their pursuits, and grows into an active participant in society.

Rose Hill School is central in preparing pupils for their future lives and this week we had our annual Wonder Day for Year 5. Pupils had the chance to experience life in Years 7 & 8, participating in exciting team-building activities and earning ‘keys’ along the way. Among the many opportunities, our pupils sampled mindfulness, orienteering, problem solving and nutrition, so many essential life experiences! Thank you to all the parents for supporting our Year 5 Wonder Day assembly this morning as well as Mr Agnew and all the staff involved.

Looking ahead, our annual Future Schools Fair takes place on Tuesday, 28 January. Please contact me or Mrs Nicoll, Head of Upper School, if you would like to discuss future school options, and Mrs Rowton if you would like to book your place [email protected].

The PA met this week and shared the astonishing fund-raising total from the Christmas Fair. This is amazing, and huge thanks to Mrs Dellar and the PA team for all of the hard work, and to the parent support. The school have made some funding suggestions which will then enhance all pupils’ experience right across the school.

My sincere thanks to Farrah and Lilly for their solo performances in assembly.

Wishing our Galactic Challengers all the best of luck!

Best wishes,

Emma Neville
