HeadLines, Friday 1 March

Date Posted: Friday 01 March 2024

Dear Parents,

Our week started with 5W’s insightful assembly reminding us of the important work that wasps do for our eco-systems. 5W shared their research, including the importance of social wasps as they play a vital ecological role as predators controlling the numbers of potential pests. Wasps are also now increasingly understood to be valuable pollinators, transferring pollen as they visit flowers to drink nectar. Thank you to Mrs Wren and 5W. Thank you also to our music performers, Evie and Rosie’s duet and Mabel and Milo’s solos.

Our curriculum Compass has seen trips out this week, with Year 3 off to RHS Wisley to look at the propagation of plants, leaf formation and properties in the rainforest. Reception’s visit to Drusilla’s Park incorporated animal handling including the snakes! Some pupils from Year 5 are today attending the maths competition at Mayfield School – we wish them good luck.

We have had a spectacular response to the House Art Competition which this year looked at food – the artwork is now displayed in the Atrium. We will be announcing the winners shortly. Well done to everyone who took the time to enter.

Members of the School Council shared their thoughts as they have been trialling different school ruck sacks. Pupils have shared their concern that books can get wet as there isn’t a separate water bottle holder. The different rucksack samples have different pocket formations, including space for water and different fabrics. We look forward to seeing the final decision.

Next week is Book Week – this is our year for dressing up – so we look forward to the many characters that walk through the door on Monday.

Huge thanks to the PA for the annual Quiz Night! Dr Tuck’s questions were suitably taxing, not just in terms of general knowledge but also by getting us to make connections! It was tough, and everyone did extraordinarily well, but there was a winning team… !

Don’t forget to grab a cake at the Scouts’ Cake Sale, in aid of The Little Princess Trust this afternoon at pick up.

Best wishes,

Emma Neville

Head
