Dear Parents,

This week marked the start of Advent. Mrs Scarbrough, Mark, Benjamin, Eliska and Max led us through the significance of the preparation leading up to the 25 December.

Our final Focus Day of the term saw a myriad of practice workshops. Year 7 & 8, undertook urban fieldwork in Tunbridge Wells looking at increasing footfall to the CBD. Year 6 navigated the Chelwood Vachery on the Ashdown Forest looking at forest management techniques. Year 5 used our own woodland to create charcoal burners and then personal responses with their charcoal artwork. Finally, while Year 4 were assimilating their Egyptian studies, Year 3’s science work involved attractive experiments with magnets.

Well done to Upper School for your assembly, thank you to Edward for playing us out. It was fantastic to hear about all the different projects you are working on. Well done to Amelie and Isla for your ‘Apprentice’ award and your rocket car presentation. The ‘100 word’ story competition entries sound amazing, well done to Rufus, Harry and George – the quality of this work was wonderful.

Our Christmas celebrations have started beautifully with the Lower School performance of ‘The Inn-Spectors’.  What a wonderful show, polished prose and song as we prepare for the festive season. Well done to all of our Year 1 & 2 pupils and huge thanks to the Lower School team and Mrs Harrod. We look forward to our EYFS Nativity next week not to forget our forthcoming Christmas Fair, hosted by the PA a week tomorrow.

A huge amount of preparation is taking place for our Carol Service, 7pm on Thursday 8 December, at St. John’s Church. We look forward to seeing you there to mark this important community celebration of Christmas and I hope you will join us for mulled wine and mince pies afterwards.

On Monday Year 4 visited the British Museum and focused their studies on Ancient Egyptian wonders. Well done for such brilliant behaviour and hard work. It was great to see so many Year 4 parents this morning and we hope that you enjoyed visiting your child’s classroom and seeing what they have learnt this year.

Best wishes,

Emma Neville
