Year 7 and 8 went on a trip to Battle Abbey

Date Posted: Wednesday 15 June 2022

Year 7 and 8 went on a trip to Battle Abbey, where they met ‘brother Dennett’ who told us all about the history of the Battle of Hastings and Battle school as well, where they have the largest single canvas painting (which is of the Battle of Hastings of course!) in Britain (and possibly Europe).  We learned that the Abbott had escape tunnels and hidden rooms and that another secret room was discovered only a week ago!  Then we walked around the battlefield seeing just how steep the hill was which the Normans had to charge up and then went to the visiting centre where we could touch the weapons and armour and see just how heavy it was.

Many thanks to Battle school and Mr Dennett for an informative, funny and engaging tour – not forgetting the chocolate muffins and squash which they generously provided for us.  A great day out – even the weather was lovely and sunny!
