HeadLines, Friday 20 June
Dear Parents,
Welcome to this week’s Headlines update, where I’ll be sharing some exciting highlights from our school community. It has been an eventful week at Rose Hill School, filled with significant learning opportunities and meaningful engagements. Let’s dive in!
On Monday we saw Year 5W share their learning on ecology, and particularly the importance of the worm, mole and bat. The work of the worm, mostly unseen won the judges vote. We are encouraged to ensure our soil is moist and a well-aerated environment – perfect for worms!
Our youngest pupils delighted their parents in the EYFS assembly, sharing songs and stories from their topic Farmer Fern’s Fantastic Farm. Their enthusiasm was infectious, as they proudly wore and announced their roles and sang with confidence and joy.
Nursery’s visit to Bore Place brought the theme to life, as they explored the countryside, met real farm animals, and learned where their food comes from, even digging up their own carrots. An early, tangible step in understanding sustainability and the natural world.
Meanwhile, Year 2’s trip to Notcutts Garden Centre inspired budding horticulturalists as they explored the life of plants and the importance of pollinators.
In Year 3, pupils immersed themselves in Japanese calligraphy, learning the art of brushwork and the cultural significance behind the characters they wrote, an enriching celebration of global awareness.
At the other end of the School, Year 8 pupils impressed staff with their Independent Project Qualification presentations, speaking with maturity, insight, and conviction on topics of personal interest. This has been an independent learning journey, and the journey being as important as the outcome.
And we ended the week with a moving Year 6 Residential Assembly, full of laughter, reflection and photos that captured a week of adventure and camaraderie.
Upcoming Events: Looking ahead, we have an exciting line-up of events to anticipate. Our school senior production of ‘Oliver!’ is just around the corner, and we can’t wait to see our talented pupils take the stage to showcase their dramatic abilities. We are also preparing for our Summer Concert and music exams. And finally, but not least we have our annual Sports Days, where pupils will participate in friendly competitions, fostering teamwork and sportsmanship. We will be collecting for St Matt’s Community Larder at each of our Sports Days. Please keep an eye on our school calendar for further details and updates.
Finally, we are absolutely delighted with the Year 8 exam results! Their academic achievements are remarkable and they should be very proud of their success. They have also presented their iPQs (ISEB) and we look forward to hearing their results in due course. Once again the academic standard was incredibly high with some very interesting research titles.
My thanks go to our dedicated staff, supportive parents, and enthusiastic pupils who together make Rose Hill School the vibrant, nurturing community it is. It is through this shared commitment that we create meaningful opportunities for growth, ignite a lifelong love of learning, and inspire our children to become compassionate, curious, and responsible citizens of the world.
Best wishes,
Emma Neville
