Big Adventures for Little Learners: A Trip To The Amelia Scott
Last week, both Nursery and Reception enjoyed fantastic outings to The Amelia Scott library and museum, providing a wonderful opportunity for hands-on learning, creativity, and exploration.
Nursery had a busy and fun-filled morning, starting with a lively Elmer story that tied into their current topic. The children were captivated by the colourful adventures of Elmer, which set the tone for the rest of their visit. After the story, they had the chance to explore the museum, where they observed and examined various animals on display. This interactive experience sparked their curiosity and allowed them to closely observe the creatures, helping develop their observation and learning skills in a real-world setting. The morning concluded with a creative group craft activity, where the children made their own colourful Elmer designs, promoting teamwork and fine motor development.
Reception, on the other hand, also had a fantastic time learning about toys from the past. They explored toys made from metal and wood and even had the unique opportunity to stroke a teddy bear that was over 100 years old! The children then took part in a hands-on activity, creating their own thaumatropes, a toy that illustrates the magic of movement and visual illusion. This helped the pupils understand how toys were once made and how play has evolved over time. Afterward, they visited the children’s library and listened to the beautiful story of Old Bear, further nurturing their love for books and storytelling.
Both year groups gained so much from this trip. They not only had fun but also strengthened their observation skills, creativity, and social interactions. It was an enriching day that connected them with the world beyond the classroom, making learning meaningful and memorable. The excitement and joy from both groups as they returned to school were clear, and these experiences will stay with them for a long time.
