HeadLines, Friday 7 March

Dear Parents,

What a week! We celebrated Book Week with a packed schedule of activities including the highlight, World Book Day. What a fantastic array of our favourite characters on display yesterday! Our starting point on Monday was D.E.A.R – drop everything and read – with everyone, including staff, having the time to dive into their favourite book! On Wednesday we held our annual Book Fair and on Thursday we had character dressing-up, and storytelling sessions, it was wonderful to see our pupils immerse themselves in the magical world of literature. Reading is one of the most valuable skills your child will ever develop. It is not just about books – it is about building confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning. Strong reading skills support children across all subjects, helping them to understand instructions in maths, explore history, and develop creativity in writing.

Reading also plays a crucial role in emotional and social development. Through stories, children experience different perspectives, expand their vocabulary, and improve their ability to express themselves. It enhances concentration, develops empathy, and sparks imagination.

We encourage all families to make reading a daily habit. Whether it’s sharing a bedtime story, discussing a favourite book, or visiting the library, every little moment makes a difference. Reading together strengthens bonds and shows children that books are something to be enjoyed. Please support your child by ensuring they read regularly at home and discussing their books with them. Thank you for helping us to nurture confident, enthusiastic readers. Thank you to Mrs Macdonald-Brown and all the staff who helped make this week a resounding success!

Year 3 attended the Recorder Festival at Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar School on Monday, well done to them all for such a fantastic performance. We also celebrated Mardi Gras and Shrove Tuesday, thank you to Mme Collette and Mrs Tucker for the activities and fantastic lunchtime menu.

Tomorrow evening, we hold our hugely competitive PA Quiz Night. The staff team are hoping to retain the title! I look forward to seeing many of you there.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Best wishes,

Emma Neville
