HeadLines, Friday 13 September

Dear Parents,

As we come to the end of our first full week of the new academic year, I am delighted to share some exciting highlights from across the school. It has been a fantastic week of learning and discovery, with our pupils diving into hands-on activities that have truly sparked their curiosity and imagination.

Our Year 1 pupils enjoyed a wonderful trip to the local woodland, where they explored nature and engaged in outdoor learning. The children had the opportunity to identify different trees, observe wildlife, and learn about the changing seasons. It was a joy to see them so engaged in their surroundings, asking thoughtful questions and working together as a team. These early experiences in nature help to foster a love of learning and respect for the environment. Following this adventure they were seen whizzing around the Astro on their bikes and scooters!

Meanwhile, Year 4 embarked on an archaeological exploration of ancient Egypt. One Year 4 classroom was transformed into a vault, creating an interactive learning space: the children had the chance to become archaeologists for the day, uncovering artefacts from a recreated Egyptian tomb. This immersive experience allowed them to learn about ancient Egyptian history in a fun and memorable way. The enthusiasm and excitement were palpable as they pieced together clues to understand more about the lives of the pharaohs and the mysteries of the pyramids.

These kinds of enriching activities are a vital part of our school’s approach to learning, blending creativity and exploration with our Compass curriculum. We are excited for the many more opportunities ahead and look forward to sharing more of these experiences with you, please refer to your welcome letters from class teachers or form tutors for further information, and our website holds all of our calendar events.

Following feedback from parents last year,  we diarised our information events for the morning, thank you for the huge support in attendance of ‘Preparation for the best year ever’. We hope that this gave you the opportunity to meet key staff, and learn about the opportunities that are ahead.

Well done to the Year 6 pupils who took exams this week, they all worked incredibly hard.

Best wishes,

Emma Neville
