HeadLines, Friday 13 June
Dear Parents,
As we approach the end of the academic year, our corridors are buzzing not just with the usual energy of the Summer Term, but with a distinct sense of looking forward. Over the past few weeks, our pupils have taken part in a number of rich and carefully designed transition experiences, each one preparing them, in age-appropriate and meaningful ways, for the challenges and opportunities of the year ahead.
In PrePrep, our ‘When I Grow Up’ careers day brought the future imaginatively into the present. It was heartening to see the children’s eyes light up as they engaged with discussions about different professionals, which inspired them to dream BIG. Their questions were as thoughtful as they were enthusiastic, and the event was a wonderful reminder that aspiration begins with exposure and encouragement.
The recent PrePrep concert also gave our youngest pupils the chance to shine. It was more than just a delightful performance; it was a demonstration of growing confidence, teamwork and joy in shared achievement. Moments like these, where children step forward in front of a supportive audience, lay important foundations for the more complex transitions that lie ahead.
Meanwhile, older pupils took a significant step in independence and maturity on their residential trip to France. Immersed in a new environment, navigating new languages and cultures, they return not only with memories and stories, but with a palpable sense of confidence and camaraderie. Experiences like these (especially when watching the ducklings hatch) build resilience, and self-awareness, qualities that will serve them well as they prepare to move up through the School and beyond.
Each of these moments, whether in a classroom, on a stage, or in a different country, represents more than a fun diversion from the usual timetable. They are purposeful, carefully planned opportunities to develop the skills, attitudes and awareness our children will need as they transition into their next stage. And they remind us that growth does not always happen quietly, it can be loud with laughter, song, and the hum of excited conversation.
We believe that education is a partnership between the school and parents. Your involvement and support are crucial to the success of Compass. It was great to see so many Year 2 parents join us for the class’s end of year assembly and Information Morning. Together, we can ensure that our children are prepared for the future, equipped with the knowledge, skills, and character to thrive in an ever-changing world.
Our school senior production of ‘Oliver!’ is just around the corner, and we can’t wait to see our talented pupils take the stage to demonstrate their dramatic abilities. We are also preparing for our annual sports days, where pupils will participate in friendly competitions, fostering teamwork and sportsmanship. Please keep an eye on our school calendar for further details and updates. Thank you, as ever, for your support and encouragement of these enriching opportunities. Together, we are helping to ensure that each child not only moves forward, but moves forward with purpose.
Best wishes,
Emma Neville
