Year 7 visit Battle Abbey

We then went to the Exhibition Centre and watched a film on the Battle of Hastings and examined the exhibits. The excellent weather allowed us to go on the full battlefield walk and we were able to appreciate the difficult task facing the Normans trying to attack up a steep slope.
After lunch we looked round the exhibits in the Gatehouse before being met by Mr Clark, the Head teacher of Battle Abbey School. He tested everyone with questions about what we had learned and then set Y7 a challenge. They had to construct a small model of a plane from 5 pieces of wood and launch it from the gallery in the Abbots Hall. Whichever plane flew the furthest winning a chocolate bar. It was a fiercely contested challenge!

Year 6 Geography trip to the River Cuckmere and Seven Sisters Country Park.

12 March 2020

Whilst the heavy rain did make the trip via Alfriston village a little tricky it also served to highlight the spectacular meanders and creeks of the River Cuckmere’s floodplain in the Spring sunshine and allow the ‘New Cut’ to be in full spate and speed along to the sea at low tide. As it did so the fast-flowing water actively undercut and eroded the shingle beach causing mini land or ‘shingle’ slides before our very eyes.
