Year 4 visit the British Museum
Last week Year 4 travelled by coach to the British Museum. We visited Room 4 first to see the Rosetta Stone and spent 30 minutes investigating the exhibits. We then attended a 40 minute talk in the Clore Education Centre where our pupils were keen to answer questions on Ancient Egypt. On our way to the Egyptian galleries on the first floor of the Museum we walked through the Anglo-Saxon and Roman galleries – 2 topics studied when the pupils were in Year 3.
The Egyptian galleries on the top floor contained many examples of mummies brought back from Egypt. The favourite of many pupils were the mummified animals-especially the cats!

It’s been a busy week full of book related fun. To kick off Book Week The Library hosted a Book Hunt for the Prep School on Monday which saw the children hunting high and low for a selection of titles. On Tuesday it was Pre Prep’s turn as they took to the Astro to hunt for favourite book characters—I’m glad to say the glum weather did not dampen their high spirits! Prep School have been designing bookmarks during their library sessions with some fantastic designs created by our artistic pupils.

As part of Year 2’s topic ‘Turrets and Tiaras’ we visited Tonbridge Castle last week. It was a Motte and Bailey castle which has had a stone castle built on it since the 11th century. We explored the stone keep and learnt all about the features of a castle such as murder holes, the portcullis, arrow slits, and the Great Hall. We played some old castle games and climbed up the motte to keep a look out for any enemies! It was a fantastic trip, enjoyed by all.
