Year 4 say Bonjour Boulogne

An early wake-up-call sounded for thirty-one excited Year 4 children last Friday as the annual day trip to Boulogne got underway. Beneath a lovely blue sky, the fully-laden coach departed spot-on time (06:30) and was soon travelling down the M20 with children and teachers eagerly anticipating the delights of a P&O Ferry crossing to France.
On board the ferry, the children were given the opportunity to visit the duty free shop, spend a small amount of sterling and explore the boat under the watchful eyes of Mr Draper, Mr Beaton, Miss Roberts, Mrs Spence, Mrs Rummery and Miss Lopez.
Once in Boulogne, we made our way to the beach for an outdoor picnic, a quick look at the sea-lion aquarium and then it was off to the stalls, the shops and the cafés of the Old Town. Here all manner of exotic purchases were made by the children with transactions undertaken in perfect French. There was even time for a quick tour of the magnificent Boulogne cathedral before returning to the coach and a Eurostar shuttle trip home.
This popular trip is valued in terms of the pupils’ personal and social development and provides a wonderful opportunity to enjoy an authentic foreign experience in a year-group context. It was a great adventure and the Year 4s had great fun!
