Year 3 Roman Day
Year 3 had a fantastic day with our Roman friends on Friday 17th January. We learnt about what they ate, their entertainment and the medicines they used. Some of us pretended to be Romans who were given harsh punishments for small crimes. Marching as Roman soldiers we used the words sinister and dexter for left and right. We then used our own homemade shields to make a ‘tortoise’ formation to protect us. It was a fun and information packed day.

Whilst the heavy rain did make the trip via Alfriston village a little tricky it also served to highlight the spectacular meanders and creeks of the River Cuckmere’s floodplain in the Spring sunshine and allow the ‘New Cut’ to be in full spate and speed along to the sea at low tide. As it did so the fast-flowing water actively undercut and eroded the shingle beach causing mini land or ‘shingle’ slides before our very eyes.
