Year 2 visit to Tonbridge castle

As part of Year 2’s topic ‘Turrets and Tiaras’ we visited Tonbridge Castle last week. It was a Motte and Bailey castle which has had a stone castle built on it since the 11th century. We explored the stone keep and learnt all about the features of a castle such as murder holes, the portcullis, arrow slits, and the Great Hall. We played some old castle games and climbed up the motte to keep a look out for any enemies! It was a fantastic trip, enjoyed by all.

It’s been a busy week full of book related fun. To kick off Book Week The Library hosted a Book Hunt for the Prep School on Monday which saw the children hunting high and low for a selection of titles. On Tuesday it was Pre Prep’s turn as they took to the Astro to hunt for favourite book characters—I’m glad to say the glum weather did not dampen their high spirits! Prep School have been designing bookmarks during their library sessions with some fantastic designs created by our artistic pupils.

26 January 2018
Students from Years 7 & 8 took part in Bede’s School Galactic Challenge Day on Saturday 20 January. This is the third time the competition has been held and our participating students were excited about the brief they had received just 24 hours previously: they would be building a subterranean Martian research base in the year 2060. Our students were put into a company called Solaris along with students from three other schools. In total there were four competing companies totally just over one hundred year 7 & 8 students. After a welcome speech from the Deputy Head of Bede’s the students were whisked off by Sixth Formers who were to act as their CEO for Solaris. The accompanying staff were told clearly that we were not to help in any way – the students were on their own!
