Y6 take a trip back to Victorian Britain
On Thursday, Year 6 dressed up as Victorians to visit the Museum of Kent Life for a Victorian Day. We visited 7 different activities learning about life as a parlour maid, Victorian shopping, a Victorian classroom, the Industrial Revolution, rag rug making, Florence Nightingale and life in a Victorian farmhouse. The Year sixes were surprisingly good at the rug making although a few of our pupils found it difficult to adjust to the strict rules of a Victorian classroom!

Whilst the heavy rain did make the trip via Alfriston village a little tricky it also served to highlight the spectacular meanders and creeks of the River Cuckmere’s floodplain in the Spring sunshine and allow the ‘New Cut’ to be in full spate and speed along to the sea at low tide. As it did so the fast-flowing water actively undercut and eroded the shingle beach causing mini land or ‘shingle’ slides before our very eyes.
