Y5 Learning about the Tudors

Year 5 have been on two History trips this term in connection with the Tudors.
We set off from Tunbridge Wells station last Friday to visit the London Eye and the Golden Hinde. We had a great time on board Francis Drake’s ship which was the first British ship to circumnavigate the globe. Our guide told us lots about life on board, including lots of gory details about living conditions, food, diseases and punishments.
On Tuesday, we then set off on the shorter journey to Penshurst Place. A team of actors re-enacted life in 1588-the year of the Spanish Armada. We all felt a bit intimidated by the imposing lady who played Queen Elizabeth while two of our miscreants, Harriet and Charlie, found themselves in the stocks. A Tudor musician even managed to get our Year 5’s dancing to some music.

Year 6 Geography trip to the River Cuckmere and Seven Sisters Country Park.

12 March 2020

Whilst the heavy rain did make the trip via Alfriston village a little tricky it also served to highlight the spectacular meanders and creeks of the River Cuckmere’s floodplain in the Spring sunshine and allow the ‘New Cut’ to be in full spate and speed along to the sea at low tide. As it did so the fast-flowing water actively undercut and eroded the shingle beach causing mini land or ‘shingle’ slides before our very eyes.
