Rose Hill girls win GOLD!

The U11 Pink team played in the IAPS regional hockey championships at Eastbourne College last Friday. After a tough start and a 0-2 loss against Holy Cross, Rose Hill picked themselves up and came back out with a fighting spirit. With draws against Dulwich Prep and St Michaels’, we went into the plate. We won the quarter-final against Russell House 2-0 and faced Skippers Hill in the semi-final. The score was still 0-0 after extra time and a penalty shoot-out faced us. In this true test of courage and resilience, we were tied after 3 penalties each and then the dreaded “sudden death”. Rose Hill led with 9 penalties to 8, and pressure was mounting. Our Goal Keeper stood boldly on the goal line facing her ninth penalty shot. We held our breath as Skippers stepped forward to take the shot; Lily moved the right way, saving the shot and putting Rose Hill through to the final. The final hurdle beckoned. In the first few minutes of the game after some sound attacking play, we won a penalty corner. The injection went out to Jemima who buried the ball in the corner of the goal with a straight strike. Some feisty defending then followed, and we held our lead to a final result of 1-0 to Rose Hill, and winners of the Plate and Gold Medal.
This was a fitting end to a fantastic day and we are extremely proud of the whole squad. Well done girls!
