Robots at the ready!

Date Posted: Monday 11 October 2021

Rose Hill School has recently come to the end of an amazing week of activity focused on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics) subjects, with the overarching theme of the week being robotics.

The week was co-ordinated by John Agnew, Head of Science and Barry Izzard, Head of Design Technology.

The week was jam packed with activities with all children gaining experience in coding or controlling robotic devices. Highlights included; Kindergarten, Reception and Year 1 coding robots to draw 2D shapes, Year 2 making brush bots and Year 3 coding Lego Boost robots and making them dance. A whole school assembly from “Jupiter Dan” educated pupils on why STEAM is such an important subject and how it flows through all that we do. He then amazed students with some super science experiments involving thrust, defying gravity, giant leaf blowers and lots of toilet roll!

Emma Neville, Head of Rose Hill School said “The end results of a week like this is that pupils who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process will become the innovators, educators, leaders, and learners of the future. We have had a wonderful week and STEAM week continues to be an important part of our curriculum”.
