Henry wins Art Scholarship to Tonbridge School

Henry worked hard on the set scholarship brief 'Environment' over the Christmas holidays. He produced an outstanding observational drawing of a log which stimulated him to look at the topical issue of the wild fires in Australia. His extended research made him explore Aboriginal Art which inspired his use of colour and symbols.
The brief required him to develop the observational drawing into his own innovative artwork. The theme of destruction within the Australian landscape let him to look at the artist Anslem Kiefer who based his art on the devastation of Second World War in Germany. Henry adopted Kiefer's technique using materials like ash, straw and bark to depict the destruction of the Australian Bush.

On Tuesday it was Pre Prep’s turn as they took to the Astro to hunt for favourite book characters—I’m glad to say the glum weather did not dampen their high spirits! Prep School have been designing bookmarks during their library sessions with some fantastic designs created by our artistic pupils.

Year 7 art trip to the Towner Gallery in Eastbourne

14 November 2019

On Thursday, 9 November Year 7 went on an Art trip to the Towner Gallery in Eastbourne. After a bus journey to Eastbourne College we had a delicious lunch in their canteen. We then walked a short distance to the Towner Gallery which is located right next to the College. It wasn’t hard to miss as there was an amazing mural painted on the side of the building, in all sorts of shapes and colours, celebrating the Towner’s 10th Anniversary.
